SAMREF set for Major Transformation

ExxonMobil, Aramco, and Samref have signed a Venture Framework Agreement to evaluate a major upgrade of the Samref refinery in Yanbu and its expansion into an integrated petrochemical complex. The proposed development would support higher-value chemicals, cleaner distillates, improved competitiveness, and a lower-emissions future - while strengthening Saudi Arabia’s downstream and liquids-to-chemicals strategy. Samref currently processes more than 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day, and the next phase could further enhance its role in the Kingdom’s growing petrochemical sector.
