Underground power distribution network: A New Path for Brazil’s Electrical Infrastructure?

ANEEL has opened an important discussion on expanding underground electricity distribution networks in Brazil.

Today, only 0.4% of Brazil’s distribution network is underground.

Underground power lines can improve supply reliability, reduce outages, and make infrastructure more resilient to extreme weather events, while also contributing to cities with less visual pollution.

However, there is a major challenge: the cost of this transformation and its potential impact on electricity tariffs.
