Many coastal waterways and sea beds are too shallow for traditional survey methods or require a survey vessel with increased agility on the water. Deploying USVs (Uncrewed Surface Vessels) with high-resolution singlebeam or multibeam sonar for collecting data is a practical and cost effective method that has increased in popularity. With this in mind I'm always pleased to see investment in developing these technologies further, including the work being done on scaling real autonomus maritime systems. We have worked with USV provider Maritime Robotics AS on a number of projects and have their “Otter” amongst our own fleet for high resolution near shore and shallow water surveys.

Self-driving cars? All aboard uncrewed boats!

We are now past the experimentation phase. Across both commercial and defense markets, we are seeing structural adoption of autonomous maritime systems, with customers shifting from pilot projects to fleet-level deployment strategies. This fundamentally changes the scale requirements of our business. This investment allows us to scale manufacturing and expand our product portfolio to meet accelerating global demand.
