Reolum Invests €2 Billion to Build Europe-Focused Green Methanol Capacity in Spain

Reolum is trying to build an integrated industrial chain, from local biomass and renewable power through to hydrogen, captured CO2 and finished synthetic fuel. If it works, it gives rural and industrial Spain a direct role in the energy transition instead of leaving value creation only to coastal hubs and big utilities.

The most advanced project is La Robla Green in León. The site integrates a biomass plant, a CO2 capture unit, a green hydrogen facility and a methanol production plant in the same complex. The project is already under construction.

The schedule calls for the biomass plant to begin operating in mid-2028, followed by e-methanol production in 2029. La Robla Green represents an investment of €850 million and is expected to create around 200 direct jobs during operation, in addition to hundreds of construction jobs.
